Editor,

Thank you, San Mateo Councilmember Cwirko-Godycki, for your advocacy on behalf of important capital projects in San Mateo. The unfunded over $300M backlog is daunting, especially in the face of $15M in potential budget deficits in the coming years.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Swire. It may make sense to preserve bike lanes next to schools but where’s the data to support them? As for money, I don’t believe money is an issue. For instance, there was no concern about using dollars wisely when the Humboldt bike lanes were installed. Or when public transportation operates at 100% all day, every day, with 50% ridership. I don’t believe our elected leaders care about using dollars wisely, only ensuring union worker salaries, pensions, and benefits are continually paid for. A reminder to vote NO on any tax measures.

$300M is almost nothing around here.

The city and county spend that kind of money on every single "Grade Separation" project to shave off a few seconds of commute time to the highway. Each highway interchange project then cost another $500M only to get people faster to San Francisco or Santa Clara County.

The county spent $600M on 19 miles of "Lexus Lanes" which subsequently increased congestion, air pollution, and basically solved nothing.

Why is San Mateo County spending so much money to get people to other counties?

Have them use BART, Caltrain and focus your money on the residents that live, work, and spend their money in this county.

Money found. Problem solved.
