A teenage boy in San Mateo was dragged for two blocks by a car allegedly driven by a 24-year-old man under the influence Friday, Dec. 3.
The driver, Brayan Lorenzo-Gomez, 24, has been charged with a DUI and drug possession, among other charges.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening on Cottage Grove Avenue and South Norfolk Street after Lorenzo-Gomez veered into the bike lane and hit the 15-year-old boy, who was riding the e-bike, dragging him and the bike for two blocks. The driver then hit two parked cars, fled the scene and hid under a parked car, where police found him with methamphetamine. Law enforcement also found 14 empty beer cans in his car.
Lorenzo-Gomez pleaded not guilty to all charges and does not have a criminal history in San Mateo County, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. The boy was hospitalized and suffered a fractured femur, lacerated spleen and road rash along the left side of his body. Both Lorenzo-Gomez and the boy are San Mateo residents.

This is the third youth hit in as many weeks in San Mateo/Foster City.
