I recognize that you are a new newspaper in the city of San Mateo and cannot possibly know the history of downtown San Mateo as well as someone who has directly participated in the making of that history for twenty-two years. Therefore, I feel compelled to comment on your recent articles regarding the downtown cinema project.
All large-scale projects that are developed in Downtown bring concerns. Some of these concerns need to be addressed, and have been addressed satisfactorily.
In the not so distant past there was an outpouring of concern over a luxury grocery market invading the downtown. Draegers is here and doing well. The downtown is here and doing well. The direct competition is here and doing well. Growth is an important part of our lives. It is important that we manage growth. The majority of the business community support the downtown cinema project. It is my opinion that this project is a major plus for the community.
