Editor,

It is unfortunate that some who purport to advocate for pedestrians and cyclists, embrace the e-bikes, which are menacing to both.

Separate lanes for e-bikes would be great. Unfortunately, many communities in the County have too few regular bike lanes as is.

As you indicate, there would be less concern or danger with this new technology if kids had a safe space to ride them.

The author here might be a little bit confused about e-bikes. Don't worry, most Democrats are.

The administrations of George W. Bush, Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger had this all covered. The federal law signed by Bush was created to simplify the whole e-bike situation and did so very well:

- <1hp with pedals: low-speed electric bicycle, is to be treated as "non-motorized" and as any other regular bicycle would. ADA laws call these Mobility Devices.

- >1hp, >30mph. These are not e-bikes anymore, this is a moped or motorcycle. These are handled in other parts of the vehicular laws and regulations.

This was simple, this was enforceable. Anything faster than 30mph without license and registration can be impounded.

But then Sacramento and Bay Area Democrats came in and messed up the whole thing by inventing weird, indistinguishable classes and then start banning them.

Now a lot of - especially old people and council members - are completely confused.

It's really about discrimination of course - as is typical with San Mateo Democrats.
