In-person visitation at the Maguire Correctional Facility will resume Friday after the sole visitation elevator was repaired after being out of order for months, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
“Over the last several months, we have been working diligently with maintenance contractors to restore service to the visitation elevator. We recognize the importance of in-person visits and are thankful incarcerated persons at the Maguire Correctional Facility will once again have the opportunity to connect with their family and loved ones in-person,” Sheriff Ken Binder said in a press release.
In-person visitation at the Maguire Correctional Facility was temporarily suspended due to a mechanical failure with the facility’s sole visitation elevator, which is more than 30 years old. The county is in the process of replacing the elevator system, including the one for visitors. The replacement project, which is expected to span the duration of 2026, will involve the visitation elevator being temporarily taken out of service at a date to be determined, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Those wishing to schedule a visit must call (650) 599-3000. The facility does not allow for in-person sign-ups.
