I was at the mall earlier today and it was filled people shopping, buying gifts, eating at restaurants, etc. Hillsdale Mall is the heart of San Mateo. It is close to a train stop and numerous bus stops. There are not only larger retail shops, there are many small businesses as well. Isn’t that the point of a community, to provide places to gather, shop locally and provide opportunities for small businesses to succeed? How many people are employed at the mall? They will all lose their jobs. There needs to be a forum where people will learn exactly what is going to happen here. Do all of the employers and employees know about this? Do all of San Mateans know about this? This is going to be absolutely devastating to our community.

I saw the same and agree. It's heartbreaking and devastating to this town. Grocery stores disappearing and now an entire mall?!?!?!
