The Mills offense obliterated the ball early and often in its 15-3 win over Sequoia in a Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division game in Millbrae Friday.
Mills scored multiple runs in every inning until the mercy rule was enforced in the fifth. The Vikings will look to extend their win-streak to three games when they take on San Mateo at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sequoia will look to bounce back when they play South San Francisco at 4 p.m. next March 22.
“We’re building some momentum with solid youth and a nice dash of senior leadership that we hope leads us to being in the conversation for playoff contention down the road,” Mills head coach Chris Hammond said.
Four doubles in the first inning set the tone and allowed the Vikings to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Mills had a total of 11 hits and seven of them were extra-base hits. Sophomore shortstop Victoria Williams had a great game at the plate and finished only needing a home run to complete the cycle.
The Vikings continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning when sophomore Cassandra Stanley hit a two-run home run to left-center and extended the Mills lead to eight. Stanley finished the game with three RBIs.
The run production for the Vikings continued into the fourth when sophomore Hannah Kwong hit a line drive single up the middle with runners in scoring position to set the score at 15-0. Kwong finished the game with three RBIs and a stolen base.

The three through seven hitters of the Mills lineup provided most of the run support. The middle of the lineup combined for nine hits and nine RBIs. Freshman captain Ione Thompson bats clean up and she completed the game with two doubles and three RBIs. The Vikings have been firing on all cylinders offensively and have totaled 28 runs in their last two games.
Vikings sophomore Sofia Mosqueda pitched four stellar innings and got her third win of the season. She surrendered no runs on two hits and four strikeouts. Mosqueda had great command over her pitches and got ahead in the count often with first pitch strikes. Her off-speed pitches kept the Cherokee hitters off-balanced.
Sequoia had plenty of opportunities and had runners in scoring position in almost every inning, but they couldn’t get that timely clutch hit to bring the runners home. Sequoia left nine runners stranded on the base paths.
The Cherokees only combined for two hits, and only scored because of four walks and two throwing errors by the Mills defense in the fifth inning.
“This is a smart group, and we’re seeing the players execute both on offense and defense, but we have to maintain our focus until that final out,” Hammond said.
The Vikings defense committed five errors and will have to take better care of the ball against future opponents.
