My county of Butte has experienced three of the 15 largest wildfires in California history since 2020, which cumulatively burned nearly 1.7 million acres. These wildfire events not only lead to loss of life, property and our natural resources, but they contaminate the air with toxic pollutants and impact the climate by releasing large quantities of greenhouse gases.
In response, state and federal agencies have called for financially sustainable ways to increase forest treatment while also providing an outlet for the presently unmerchantable biomass material that is frequently left behind in large piles or burned on-site.
GSNR is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, established by rural county leaders in the state, to directly address this need through a proposed project that would sustainably gather and process excess biomass into wood pellets for use in renewable energy generation.
Wood pellets are considered a renewable energy source by California, U.S. and international agencies and many countries around the world that are currently reliant on coal are using wood pellets as part of the transition to cleaner energy sources.
Overall, GSNR’s proposed forest resiliency project is a thoughtful and necessary step in reducing catastrophic wildfires, in accordance with state and federal goals.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Teeter. Unfortunately, Newsom and California Dems would rather let California burn, baby, burn, and allow wildfire carbon emissions to easily surpass any carbon emissions that California has saved, likely in the history of California. Perhaps you can petition President Trump’s administration for some action to move your project along. There are federal lands in California which may provide source material to fill your renewable energy troughs. Or perhaps you can convince the Trump administration to withhold federal funds unless California opens up their forests. I wish you good luck.
