This is in response to the recent letter addressing the moral qualifications of candidates for the presidency of the U.S. Why should we vote for someone who is a confirm felon, a dishonest charlatan, and who displays questionable character? The writer brings up Kamala Harris being married to a philanderer — yet, her husband is not the one running for president. However, a man who was involved with a porn star while his wife was nursing their baby is running for office.
As of Harris allegedly lying about Biden’s state of mind — she never raised that issue. It was Trump and the Republicans who began promoting this narrative. Moreover, the role of the vice president has always been of significant importance; they must be ready to step up when necessary. VPs may be in the background, but it’s a crucial position. Even President Truman knew little about the atomic bomb, which was a monumental matter, and yet he stepped up like a pro.
Morals matter, the presidency is not just a critical role for county but for the entire world. Trump has shown he only cares about what benefits him. We must consider the future — Project 2025 is at stake. A vote for Trump may well mean the end of our republic and democracy.
Here’s Jorg-y with his SS,DD (Same Shtick, Different Day). As C. Padilla and Westy and Jorg show us, apparently morals matter only if applied to your competition but not to your idols. Perhaps these three should examine their own morals.
Trump is a highly successful, tough business man and those are the traits we need to deal with Putin and Shah. Kamal is soft on everything except undermining our capitalist system.
Oh, yes, Ed! Trump is certainly a highly successful businessman, with a vast inheritance basically lost, multiple bankruptcies in his wake, a string of cheated contractors, 34 criminal convictions, so far, - and trouble paying his bills today. Very impressive, - especially for impressionable, gullible and easily fooled Trumpians!
So uplifting and encouraging to listen to the speakers at the DNC, and see how they tear Donald Trump apart, in every which possible way, - and rightfully so.. VP Kamala Harris as our new POTUS!
Jorg, what’s hilarious is the fact our (yes, our) great President Trump continues to live large and rent free in everyone’s heads at the DNC, especially Biden and Obama, just as he does in yours and your fellow rabid lefties. I hear the first day of the DNC, Trump was mentioned almost 150 times and other topics such as the border, crime, and inflation were mentioned less than 20 times. What do you expect? Hidin’ Harris and Stolen Valor A-Walz have no policies to talk about except the ones they’re stealing from Trump. Oh wait, I hear Cackling Kamala does have policy statements now. They can be found at https://kamala2024policies.com. Tell me what you think. BTW, how about Bill Clinton telling us Biden “voluntarily” gave up power? Just another lie but I’m pretty sure Dems have no problem getting you to repeat it.
Jorg - apparently it does not take much to lift your spirits. He came across as a used car salesman but hat is what your mental acuity apparently resonates with. Well good for you but not for the rest of us who value the American spirit instead of the Karl Marx doctrine.
Dirk: “the rest of us” You mean the shrinking Republican minority, with more and more of the more enlightened ones turning to support the other side, you know, the steadily increasing democratic majority? And what on flat Earth do you mean by the “Karl Marx doctrine”? Just another thing you tossed out without thinking, just because it sounded good ?
Jorg - the rest of us are the ones who will not vote for Harris and her Marxist VP candidate. These comprise the shrinking population that you pray will actually go away, but also many independents, and of late the likely RFK Jr. supporters. Marxism does not sound good and is threatening to our society. The VP candidate is an avowed Mao Marxist but Rachel may not yet have instructed you to acknowledge it. I love seeing you twist and turn out of this one. BTW, Rachel is coming to town for her book signing. Make sure that you buy plenty of tickets for your vast circle of friends.
Dirk: No surprise you’re wrong again. What in the world do you mean by being a “Marxist”? Do you mean doing good just for the sake of kindness, instead of doing good in the hope of some reward from an imaginary god-figure hiding way up in the sky?
Westy - if I am a thug, then what are you? The anticipated white wash by a shallow leftist who cannot fathom that some issues are just not 100% clear one way or another. Imagine thinking that Harris is a perfect and an acceptable candidate, what a joke!
I did not have to reach very far as what I have written is widely known. I believe my point is that no matter what Harris stands for, you will accept it hook line and sinker. There is no criticism coming from your side of the isle at all, and that is suspicious. Many Trump supporters, including yours truly, have expressed concerns about his behavior, exclamations and some of his policy proposals. That is a far more healthy expressed opinion than the one severely lacking on your side of the isle in which Harris is suddenly pure as the driven snow.
Thanks for the exchange last week re: immigration. We spoke of some ways to improve the border crisis... it is a negative situation. Kamala's performance... let's just set aside the "border czar" stuff... as the lead person, appointed by Joe in March 2021, to stem the flow of migration coming into the US is part of that negative border situation.
However, I believe her judgment may also be a negative is assessing her suitability for the Oval Office. She selected a radical midwestern governor, Tim Walz, as her running mate. Walz said a couple of weeks ago, “one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.” That could not be further from the truth. However, if it was true, that one person's socialism will last until his or her neighbor runs out of money. Then, it's borscht all around! Socialism is not neighborliness, and it does not work. I won't rehash Walz's radical policies. Check my 8/15 post at 9:35 pm in the comments following last week's "Scientific advances need scrutiny" LTE.
That brings us back full circle to Kamala's judgment. She picked a running mate who implemented radical policies as the chief executive of his state. Kamala's choice signals a lack of judgment on her part by picking a running mate out of touch with most Americans. It's not a great leap to conclude she feels comfortable with her running mate's radical agenda... and we can expect another Great Leap Forward if Kamala and Walz are elected in November.
Ray: Still hung up on the decades long border issue? Have you forgotten, or conveniently ignored, the bipartisan solution that Trump told the Republicans to reject, - because a continued “crises” would make Democrats look bad, while a partial solution would make his opposition look better, and himself worse. Your defense?
We're talking about the decades long failure of Democratic Party controlled and Republican Party controlled Congresses. Have you forgotten or conveniently ignored that DHS reported more border crossings in 2023 during the Biden administration than during Trump's entire term of office?
If you would like to continue this discussion, could you focus on a topic, state your POV, toss in some research and send it along?
Dirk, if Westy and other rabid lefties willfully ignore treasonous Biden’s incompetence, they’re going to ignore Cackling Kamala’s incompetence and stolen nomination along with her lack of policies and her failure as border czar. What else can they do? Besides, you always knew Westy would give Hidin’ Harris a pass on her morals, or lack thereof, as C. Padilla has done.
Yes vote with your conscience! How Apropos? Mr. Padilla likely forgot the old sage that one who sleeps with dogs, catches fleas. And, not until very recently, Harris stated emphatically that Biden was at the top of his game. Why is it that Democrats have circled the wagons around her and dumped the prior candidate so unceremoniously? Trump voters are well aware of his shortcomings but Harris' flaws have somehow vanished like snowflakes in the eyes of supporters?
You state: “Trump has shown he only cares about what benefits him”. That’s what it certainly looks like, and that’s what he obviously means. However, I don’t think he is even bright enough to understand that much, if not most, of what he has done in selfish interest, end up hurting him in the longer run. He is by far the dumbest WH occupant we have ever had the misfortune to experience, including the other EC minority-selected Republican, George W. Bush.
I would take exception to your suggestion that Bush 43 is dumb. He trained and flew the Convair F-102 fighter/interceptor more than fifty years ago. Sure, maybe his influential father helped him get accepted into an Air National Guard pilot training program... but that wasn't quite the same as Joe getting Hunter pushed to the top of the list for a direct commission in the Navy... Hunter didn't last too long. Bush, however, flew a single seat tactical jet aircraft, and his daddy wasn't in the cockpit with him. Jorg... if you don't know, know it now... the military doesn't put dumb people into jet aircraft. When was the last time you went supersonic?
Well, Ray, how incredibly dumb do you have to be, to listen to imaginary voices from a made-up fantasy figure in your head, telling him to go to war with Afghanistan, then again with Iraq? What about the intellect of those who believed him, and acted accordingly? Have they even learned that if you start a war, you’ll lose it?
I love the smell of ad hominem in the morning. Smells like... victory!
Jorg... you are the only one in these pages who envisions God as someone with a long beard and flowing robes gliding across the heavens.
You appear to object to a leader drawing on his or her experience and values when you dislike that leader. Is it not true that leaders you support... like Barack Obama... also draw on their experiences and values? If we are to believe Barack, his values and beliefs include the same religious underpinnings you dislike in GW Bush.
Why do you think Barack concluded important speeches with, "God bless the United States"?
We have had this discussion in the past... the documentation presented to Congress by the Bush administration was not based on his religious views. You impugned the intellect persons who supported the conflicts mentioned in your post. Those persons came from both sides of the aisle in Congress... including Joe. Were they dumb?
When we look back on our entry into those conflicts, nearly everyone in these pages now says they were a mistake. I have said so more than once. While it's not unlikely the US could remain completely out of the Middle East mess, any intervention should be measured with clear goals in mind. Trying to build democracies in places without a history of self governance is too steep a hill to climb.
Coming back to my rebuttal last night, are you still of the opinion that someone capable of flying solo in jet fighters is dumb? I'd love to hear your response. Just so you know... Charlie don't surf, and dumb people don't fly jets.
One last thing. Can you explain, "... if you start a war, you'll lose it"? I think the other GW would disagree with you.
Really, Ray: who in modern times has started a war and won? You had to go all the way back to George Washington, - in an attempt to save your point! We lost both wars that Bush Jr. started after listening to an imaginary figure roaming around in his head. I have no idea what it takes to fly an airplane, although I have a close friend (former Republican until Trump appeared!) who built his own and flew from California to Norway, and back, in it, - without falling out of the sky even once! But I doubt it would require a superior intellect to fly even a fighter jet, if Bush Jr. could be taught to do it.
And, don’t forget, all this “god blessing” is an ingrained part of the American culture, and more or less included automatically as a standard conclusion of all speeches, without much thought.
By “modern times” do you mean since WWII? With the advent of nuclear weapons and an increasing number of proxy wars involving unconventional warfare and tactics… fighting “winnable” wars has become less common. BTW… the reference to George Washington… or the “other” GW… was done only because you introduced GW Bush in an earlier post.
I agree. You probably have not acquired the skill and experience it takes to fly an airplane. I’m sure your friend, who flew what may have been a single engine homebuilt plane across the Atlantic… a daunting accomplishment… will tell you that someone cannot be dumb and fly supersonic jet fighters. You’re doubting that it takes a high degree of intellect to fly a jet fighter… only because a political leader you dislike succeeded in doing so? That kinda brings us back to your admission that you “have no idea what it takes to fly an airplane.” That’s fair.
If you would like to continue this discussion, could you focus on a topic, state your POV, toss in some research and send it along?
Thanks for your letter, C. Padilla, but you conveniently forget that Kamala Harris was the other woman of a philanderer. So morals matter, just not when they’re applicable to your candidate? Vote with your conscience and remember that your love for America should be greater than your hate for Trump. A vote for Trump will keep our republic intact and will Make America Great Once Again.

I'm amused by how off-topic and tangental the Rethugs have to go to come up with anything "negative" about Kamala.
