Jorg - the rest of us are the ones who will not vote for Harris and her Marxist VP candidate. These comprise the shrinking population that you pray will actually go away, but also many independents, and of late the likely RFK Jr. supporters. Marxism does not sound good and is threatening to our society. The VP candidate is an avowed Mao Marxist but Rachel may not yet have instructed you to acknowledge it. I love seeing you twist and turn out of this one. BTW, Rachel is coming to town for her book signing. Make sure that you buy plenty of tickets for your vast circle of friends.

Dirk: No surprise you’re wrong again. What in the world do you mean by being a “Marxist”? Do you mean doing good just for the sake of kindness, instead of doing good in the hope of some reward from an imaginary god-figure hiding way up in the sky?

I did not have to reach very far as what I have written is widely known. I believe my point is that no matter what Harris stands for, you will accept it hook line and sinker. There is no criticism coming from your side of the isle at all, and that is suspicious. Many Trump supporters, including yours truly, have expressed concerns about his behavior, exclamations and some of his policy proposals. That is a far more healthy expressed opinion than the one severely lacking on your side of the isle in which Harris is suddenly pure as the driven snow.

Thanks for the exchange last week re: immigration. We spoke of some ways to improve the border crisis... it is a negative situation. Kamala's performance... let's just set aside the "border czar" stuff... as the lead person, appointed by Joe in March 2021, to stem the flow of migration coming into the US is part of that negative border situation.

However, I believe her judgment may also be a negative is assessing her suitability for the Oval Office. She selected a radical midwestern governor, Tim Walz, as her running mate. Walz said a couple of weeks ago, “one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.” That could not be further from the truth. However, if it was true, that one person's socialism will last until his or her neighbor runs out of money. Then, it's borscht all around! Socialism is not neighborliness, and it does not work. I won't rehash Walz's radical policies. Check my 8/15 post at 9:35 pm in the comments following last week's "Scientific advances need scrutiny" LTE.

That brings us back full circle to Kamala's judgment. She picked a running mate who implemented radical policies as the chief executive of his state. Kamala's choice signals a lack of judgment on her part by picking a running mate out of touch with most Americans. It's not a great leap to conclude she feels comfortable with her running mate's radical agenda... and we can expect another Great Leap Forward if Kamala and Walz are elected in November.

Ray: Still hung up on the decades long border issue? Have you forgotten, or conveniently ignored, the bipartisan solution that Trump told the Republicans to reject, - because a continued “crises” would make Democrats look bad, while a partial solution would make his opposition look better, and himself worse. Your defense?

We're talking about the decades long failure of Democratic Party controlled and Republican Party controlled Congresses. Have you forgotten or conveniently ignored that DHS reported more border crossings in 2023 during the Biden administration than during Trump's entire term of office?

You appear to object to a leader drawing on his or her experience and values when you dislike that leader. Is it not true that leaders you support... like Barack Obama... also draw on their experiences and values? If we are to believe Barack, his values and beliefs include the same religious underpinnings you dislike in GW Bush.

Why do you think Barack concluded important speeches with, "God bless the United States"?

We have had this discussion in the past... the documentation presented to Congress by the Bush administration was not based on his religious views. You impugned the intellect persons who supported the conflicts mentioned in your post. Those persons came from both sides of the aisle in Congress... including Joe. Were they dumb?

When we look back on our entry into those conflicts, nearly everyone in these pages now says they were a mistake. I have said so more than once. While it's not unlikely the US could remain completely out of the Middle East mess, any intervention should be measured with clear goals in mind. Trying to build democracies in places without a history of self governance is too steep a hill to climb.

Coming back to my rebuttal last night, are you still of the opinion that someone capable of flying solo in jet fighters is dumb? I'd love to hear your response. Just so you know... Charlie don't surf, and dumb people don't fly jets.

One last thing. Can you explain, "... if you start a war, you'll lose it"? I think the other GW would disagree with you.

Really, Ray: who in modern times has started a war and won? You had to go all the way back to George Washington, - in an attempt to save your point! We lost both wars that Bush Jr. started after listening to an imaginary figure roaming around in his head. I have no idea what it takes to fly an airplane, although I have a close friend (former Republican until Trump appeared!) who built his own and flew from California to Norway, and back, in it, - without falling out of the sky even once! But I doubt it would require a superior intellect to fly even a fighter jet, if Bush Jr. could be taught to do it.

And, don’t forget, all this “god blessing” is an ingrained part of the American culture, and more or less included automatically as a standard conclusion of all speeches, without much thought.

By “modern times” do you mean since WWII? With the advent of nuclear weapons and an increasing number of proxy wars involving unconventional warfare and tactics… fighting “winnable” wars has become less common. BTW… the reference to George Washington… or the “other” GW… was done only because you introduced GW Bush in an earlier post.

I agree. You probably have not acquired the skill and experience it takes to fly an airplane. I’m sure your friend, who flew what may have been a single engine homebuilt plane across the Atlantic… a daunting accomplishment… will tell you that someone cannot be dumb and fly supersonic jet fighters. You’re doubting that it takes a high degree of intellect to fly a jet fighter… only because a political leader you dislike succeeded in doing so? That kinda brings us back to your admission that you “have no idea what it takes to fly an airplane.” That’s fair.
