Led by then-Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, center, demonstrators in Los Angeles sought and eventually won the passage of the California Dream Act. The 2011 law provides state financial aid for undocumented college students.
The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid and California Dream Act Application are now available online for students seeking financial aid for college.
Both financial aid forms, typically launched in October, were delayed while major revisions were made to the applications, according to the California Student Aid Commission.
The Federal Student Aid Office integrated tax data into the FAFSA form so most families will have prepopulated data on the form, making filing it more efficient. The formula to determine eligibility also has been updated to make more students eligible for aid, according to a news release from the California Student Aid Commission.
The new FAFSA application is in a soft launch phase, so it may not always be available initially while the office continues to make technical updates to the site. If information is submitted during the soft launch, it will be saved.
The California Dream Act Application also has been updated to simply steps and to implement recent legislation to embed an affidavit filers must complete to demonstrate their eligibility for financial aid. Previously, undocumented students had to fill these forms out separately.
Due to the delayed launch of the financial aid applications, the Cal Grant priority deadline has been extended to April 2. Students should also check with their college as there may be other deadlines to be considered for campus-based aid.

California is now providing free health care to illegal immigrants - including "Gender Affirming Care" aka sex changes. California is officially a failed state that treats illegals better than citizens. The only seemingly positive reforms the goverments of California offer to citizens are only existential - while they work much harder to provide tangible solutions for people that should not even be here to begin with - and their first contribution to America is breaking the law. Most are military age men but nobody seems to care. Nobody seems to care that thousands of children are being trafficked by fake "families" over the open border - people are being left dead everywhere because of the harsh conditions in the desert. Liberals love to label stealing your tax dollars with seemingly altruistic monikers like "The Dream Act" and "The Dont Say Gay Bill" - because they want to guilt you into accepting their subjugation (because thats what it is) for fear of being labeled a "bigot" - and really what they want is to cancel you and prevent you from making money because you are a "meanie". Wrong is wrong no matter what color it is. California will inevitablty be loaded with a majority of illegal immigrants that they will soon force us that still have businesses to hire or else be fined - guns will be illegal unless you are law enforcement - and gas powered anything will be illegal. If you want to look at the future of California - look at South Africa. Its the exact same rhetoric. And as California goes - the rest of the nation goes.
