Since the homeless shelter in North Central San Mateo will not be open this winter, and the new shelter in South San Francisco will not be open until Dec. 15, members of the winter homeless task force are asking for help from other local shelters.
Tom Roberts, the county homeless coordinator, said the new shelter will be located in South San Francisco at 301 North Access road. It will be on the parking lot of the SamTrans North County facility.
Members of the winter shelter task force held a meeting yesterday to discuss the logistics of the shelter.
The armory in San Mateo is usually open by the end of November and Roberts said they hope other shelters will help out during the interim period.
He said the Samaritan House will provide vouchers for the homeless and several local shelters will help in providing extra space.
"We are asking the Claire Mateo Alliance shelter in Menlo Park and the Shelter Network on Maple Street to provide extra beds," Roberts said. "They will have a total of 20 extra beds."
