The woman, 44-year-old Shanta Barden, was sentenced to two years in state prison for both crimes.
Barden went into a Carl’s Jr. in Redwood City on Oct. 18 and ordered food but refused to pay for it. After the cashier said she wouldn’t ring the charge up unless Barden paid, Barden threw the credit card processor back in the cashier’s face, according to prosecutors.
From there, Barden went to the nearby Marathon gas station where she screamed in the face of the cashier and stole $98 worth of cigarettes, lighters and candy. Charges in a third altercation that day — where Barden allegedly approached a male victim with a black object he thought might be a gun, then rifled through his pockets and took personal items like debit cards — were dropped as part of her plea deal, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
On Jan. 9, Barden will have a restitution hearing to see how much she owes for the various crimes.
