Fire drones

Battalion Chief Tom Calvert and Capt. Tony Eggimann pack up three Menlo Fire UAS/Drones to monitor and locate fire activity at night time near Wawona in Yosemite National Park. The Menlo Fire UAS/Drone Team arrived at the South Fork Base Camp at the Badger Pass Ski Area this weekend and started flying drones to monitor the fire and provide real-time situational awareness and fire location and behavior to the command and planning staff at the fire. The UAS/Drone Team is using three platforms, a DJI Inspire 1, Inspire 2 and Mavic Drones. The goal is to protect the community of Wawona and help save and preserve the forest and land within Yosemite National Park. Specifically, one of the priorities is to protect Mariposa Grove, one of the last remaining stands of Giant Sequoias in the Nation.
