REDWOOD CITY — Oracle Corp. on Monday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $4.02 billion, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Redwood City-based company said it had a loss of 98 cents. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses and amortization costs, were 83 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 14 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 72 cents per share.
The software maker posted revenue of $9.77 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $9.78 billion, which missed Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $9.79 billion.
Oracle shares have increased almost 10 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has climbed 1.5 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $51.97, an increase of 14 percent in the last 12 months.
