The Garden Conservancy’s San Francisco Peninsula Open Day offers entry Saturday to a pair of rarely seen private Woodside estates.
Valhalla Farms spreads over 7 acres of untouched oak woodlands and has a 1.5-acre vineyard as well as lush shaded areas with azaleas and rhododendrons. Next door, Sonsini Garden, nestled in a small valley along a creek, contains remnants of enormous logged redwoods — possibly those used to build early San Francisco.
The site also incorporates a swimming pool with spa and a tennis court surfaced in chocolate brown and tan.
Valhalla Farms and Sonsini Garden are open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for self-guided tours and can both be accessed through a parking area at 380 Mountain Home Road at the corner of Mountain Home Court.
