Serra 9, Menlo-Atherton 8
The Padres outlasted the Bears in a slugfest in Game 2 of the Battle of Atherton tournament.
The game went back and forth. M-A (0-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the second for a 4-1 lead, but Serra (2-0) scored five in the top of the third for a 6-5 lead. The Padres added two more in the fourth and one more in the top of the seventh for a 9-6 lead.
They then had to withstand an M-A rally in the bottom of the seventh as the Bears scored twice but could not push across the tying run.
Jack Wessell and William Wallbridge each homered and drove in three runs for Serra. Ayden Beal and Brody Crudeli each collected a pair of hits and had an RBI for the Padres, as well.
Max Brubacher and Joseph Dresch each drove in a pair of runs for the Bears.
James Logan-Union City 8, Sacred Heart Prep 1
The Colts cruised to a Battle of Atherton tournament win over the Gators.
Logan (1-1) took control of the game with a six-run second as SHP (0-2) was held to one run on six hits.
Nico Pollioni and Brayden Berta each had two hits for the Gators.
Los Gatos 12, Menlo School 4
The Wildcats scored in five of the seven innings to take down the Knights in the Battle of Atherton tournament.
Menlo (1-1) scored three runs through the first two innings, but Los Gatos (2-0) took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the second and four more in the top of the third.
Jack Freehill continues his hot start to the season, homering and driving in a pair of runs for the Knights. Menlo leadoff hitter Logan Tran went 3 for 3 with an RBI.
San Mateo 11, Mission 0
The Bearcats opened the season with a mercy-rule win over the Bears in San Mateo.
San Mateo scored 11 runs on 10 hits, plating three in the first, four in the second and ending things with a four-run bottom of the fourth.
Michael Lackey had four RBIs to lead the San Mateo attack, with Wilson Morales adding three RBIs. Tyce Copus had good day in the leadoff spot. The senior went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and a run driven in.
Morales and Hudson Brandt combined on the mound to limit Mission to a single hit. Morales got the win, working the first four innings picked up the win on the mound, working the first four inning, allowing the hit while striking out six. Brandt pitched the top of the fifth and struck out the side.
Woodside 10, El Camino 5

Only a four-run seventh from the Colts made the score better than it really was as a seven-run fifth propelled the Wildcats to the win in their season opener.
Woodside led 2-0 after the second inning and added a third run the bottom of the fourth before giving themselves some breathing room with the seven-run fifth.
El Camino (0-2) scored once in the first and not again until the Colts’ final at-bat.
John Tinson went 4 for 4 at the plate, with a double and two RBIs for Woodside. Carter Ball got the win on the mound for the Wildcat, giving up an unearned run on two hits in five innings of work.
Hunter Tamayo had the big hit of the day as the El Camino senior blasted a grand slam in the top of the seventh.

Drew-SF beat Westmoor (1-1), 7-2.
Boys’ tennis
Carlmont 7, San Mateo 0
The Scots improved to 2-0 in PAL Bay play with the sweep of the Bearcats.
Lucas Rowe was dominant at No. 1 singles for Carlmont, winning his match 6-1, 6-0. The Scots’ No. 1 doubles team of Aaroha Save and Filip Pejakovic won with the reverse score, 6-0, 6-1. Aaron Zhang, playing at No. 2 singles, lost only three games in a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Aragon 5, Woodside 2
The Dons kept pace with Carlmont atop the Bay Division standing, also improving to 2-0 after beating the Wildcats.
Sweeping the three doubles matches proved to be the difference for Aragon. The No. 3 doubles match went three sets, with Aragon’s Matthew Chong and Ryan Newman pulling out a 6-0, 2-6, 10-7 win over Woodside’s Lucas Campana and Evan Pandds.
The No. 3 singles match also went three set, with Woodside’s Lucas Kuo emerging ith a 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-6 win over Darrin O’Brien.
Woodside’s Owen Demas won at No. 1 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Burlingame 4, Mills 3
The Panthers outlasted the Vikings in their Bay Division opener.
Mills (0-2), won three of the four singles matches, but Burlingame swept the doubles and Udhanta Mishra-Agoram won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to give the Panthers the one singles win they needed.
Burlingame’s Kobe Wang and Dominic Tom made sure of the win as they outlasted Simon Post and Jovian Cheung in three sets at No. 3 doubles.
Mills’ Ethan Liu cruised to a No. 1 singles win, 6-3, 6-0; Aiden Zhao also lost only three games at No. 2 singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 win. Neel Ranji made it three wins in singles for Mills as he outlasted Caleb Chou in three sets at No. 3 singles.
