Editor,
Thanks for article highlighting the resurrection of the Murphy House. It looks magnificent in its new location. Kudos to all whose efforts gave the home a new life, to be loved and admired for another century.

It is regrettable that the Gates House did not enjoy the same respect. Burlingame’s first residence was demolished in 2017, four years after being singed when the house next door caught fire. The space that both homes occupied are still vacant today, making that downtown street less inviting.
I lament that I may have hastened its demise by prodding the city to rescue the home. The owner, who clearly had no interest in saving the massive Queen Ann Victorian, was given an emergency demolition permit, allowing him to avoid any public hearing. No one bothered to list it on the Registry of Historic Places, as was the Murphy House.Â

I am curious if the author is the same Tim Donnelly who identified as living in North Central (San Mateo) during public comment at the Monday, February 3 City Council meeting
