I was recently reminded of the time our previous pastor’s mother was visiting from North Carolina and she shared the story of the day decades earlier when she registered to vote.

Craig Wiesner

She walked into the registrar’s office along with a Black professor from her college. They were each handed a form and then the clerk pulled two ledgers down from a shelf and explained that each would have to answer a question about the state’s constitution to prove their “literacy” to vote. The questions in her ledger, the white ledger, were all very simple and she quickly answered the one the clerk pointed to. The ledger handed to the Black professor was quite different, filled with very esoteric and complex questions that no average person could possibly answer. He was told to read several pages and then answer a question about them. She glanced over and saw the jumbled mess he was being asked to deal with and knew that it would be impossible. A tear fell from the Black professor’s eye, he closed the book, and walked out.

Thank you Craig for spotlighting information that will impact women's voting rights in the near future. We need more people to bring up these issues!

Let's not make this a racial issue. The anecdotal examples should be brought to the attention of our lawmakers before they vote on the package. There are likely millions of US citizens whose last names have changed for various reasons and that fact should be adjudicated. This is where our loudmouth politicians, Mullin and the two annoying senators should show their worth.

Thanks, Mr. Wiesner, for providing the standard Democrat playbook narrative on voting rights. As usual, you’ve included a few cherry-picked examples which do not reflect reality. For instance, if there were issues with voting, why did over 150 million people just finish voting in November, 2024? BTW, the slogan for 2024 was “Too big to rig.” And voters ensured it was, with assistance from oversight in swing states known for voter fraud in 2020. I urge everyone to endorse the SAVE Act. If you check, you’ll see that millions more moderate Dems support voter ID than the few cherry-picked examples provided by Mr. Wiesner.

Thanks, Craig, for a necessary reminder of the atrocities committed against people of color! That reminds me how black people who had fought bravely on our side during WWII, were treated when they came home, - those fortunate enough to do so. They were even denied the GI benefits awarded white soldiers! I’m forever indebted to that black American GI who saved my dear son-in-law’s grandfather, who as a 17-year-old was forced into battle by Hitler to stop the advancing American army, a dictator his whole family hated. Fortunately, that black GI had a heart, so instead of shooting the captured young German involuntary soldier, he let him run away, - which eventually resulted in my dear son-in-law, a prominent scientist and physician, as well as a world rescue-swimming champion.
