In just 20 days, officials will count the ballots for the special election to oust San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus. As one of the county’s prominent politicians likes to say, make no mistake about it — the March 4 special election on Measure A is a vote on whether to fire Corpus.

The continuing argument offered up against the measure is not about Corpus’ appalling conduct, but whether the election meets some imaginary standard for a public vote. It is just one item on a grocery list of comments that has swirled around Measure A. Many of the comments have emanated from Corpus, who, as has been noted here before, is careening between defiant and delusional.

Thank you, Mr. Simon, for another recap of “As the Sheriff’s World Turns.” In regards to your conclusion regarding Corpus refusing to leave, that begs the question of whether ousting Corpus as Sheriff means that Corpus is relegated to being a non-command level officer and becomes a “regular” law enforcement officer or is completely ousted out of San Mateo County law enforcement. Regardless, her access will become partially or totally eliminated and any incursions are grounds for trespassing, aren’t they? Maybe even B&E? Perhaps we can start a bingo game and contributors can list 23 additional methods for ousting someone who refuses to leave.
