Redwood City police arrested a man Wednesday after a fatal hit-and-run collision Tuesday evening.
Lazaro Gregorio Chacajlux, 32, of Redwood City, surrendered on Wednesday to police investigators, according to a police release. He was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death and gross vehicular manslaughter.
On Tuesday evening, a Jeep with a 36-year-old passenger was traveling south on Hudson Street when it was allegedly sideswiped by Chacajlux in a white Ford pickup truck, police said. The truck was exiting a driveway behind the Shell gas station at the intersection of Hudson Street and Woodside Road.
After the collision, police said the driver of the Jeep pulled over and stopped the vehicle to exchange information, while Chacajlux fled the scene in the truck without stopping.
The 36-year-old Jeep passenger pursued Chacajlux's truck on foot and caught up to it when traffic slowed on Woodside Road. The Jeep passenger grabbed onto the truck in attempt to stop it, while Chacajlux accelerated the vehicle. The passenger then fell from the truck and was run over by it, police said.
