Two Half Moon Bay men pleaded not guilty to attempted murder for the alleged shooting of a man in the Moonridge area of Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
One of the men, 18-year-old Orlando Montelongochavarin, who the DA’s Office alleges shot the victim, previously pleaded not guilty to premeditated attempted murder, shooting at a vehicle and conspiracy to murder.
Now, 19-year-old John Neves pleaded not guilty to a similar set of charges — attempted murder, shooting at a vehicle and conspiracy to murder — for aiding and abetting the crime, Wagstaffe said.
Montelongochavarin and Neves are alleged members of the Sureño gang, according to the DA’s Office. Montelongochavarin allegedly fired several shots at the victim, who was seated in a car, and then fled the scene along with a 14-year-old friend, believing him to be fatally shot.
Montelongochavarin had allegedly asked the underage friend to shoot the victim and he refused, and a loaded firearm was found at the friend’s house, according to the DA’s Office. Both Montelongochavarin and Neves are being additionally charged with misdemeanor contribution to delinquency of a minor.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19.
