Tires on 21 cars in Belmont deflated
The Belmont Police Department is warning residents to be on the lookout after the tires on 21 cars in the city's Hallmark area were purposely flattened Wednesday morning.
Between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday police responded to the Hallmark area of Belmont after hearing multiple reports of tires being deflated, according to Sgt. Patrick Halleran.
Halleran said the tires were not slashed, and that it appeared the "air was simply let out of the tires."
It was "obviously a major inconvenience," Halleran said.
Anyone with information on the incidents is urged to call the Belmont Police Department at (650) 595-7400.
SFO to see 1.6 million holiday travelers
San Francisco International Airport officials are expecting about 115,000 passengers to pass through on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the end of the holiday travel season.
For the period beginning Friday and ending on Dec. 31, SFO officials are anticipating more than 1.6 million travelers will pass through the doors. That represents an increase of about 8 percent compared to last year.
In November, during the Thanksgiving holiday week, SFO saw more than 1 million travelers, an increase of 4 percent from the same period last year.
The 45 domestic and international airlines serving the airport transport passengers to 60 U.S. cities and 29 international destinations, SFO reported.
Because of the expected congestion, SFO is advising all domestic passengers to arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled flights. International travelers should arrive two hours early.
Family Service Agency gives See's Candies
Supporters of the Family Service Agency of San Mateo County received some sweet incentives in the mail to donate this holiday season with a gift certificate to See's Candies.
The certificate was good for one pound of chocolate from See's Candies, and cost about $23,000 total for all of the certificates combined, the agency reported.
Included with the certificate was a letter from See's Candies Inc. President Charles N. Huggins, who also serves as a lifetime board member for the agency.
In the past See's Candies has donated used cars from their corporate fleet to non-profit organizations, the agency reported.
For the past 55 years the agency has worked to help children, families and seniors lead productive lives through counseling, early education and care, family loans, older worker employment and other programs, the agency reported.
