• U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, has asked a panel of community, government, business and labor leaders to review all requests for funding received by her office for fiscal year 2011. The Citizens Oversight Panel will meet this month and next in public forums to review applications and hear from applicants before making recommendations to the congresswoman.
This is the second year Congresswoman Speier is convening such a panel. Speier has co-authored a bipartisan earmark reform bill with U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-La., that would increase online disclosure of funding requests for all members of the House of Representatives.
A total of 41 requests for funding have been submitted to Speier’s office. The proposals and other information are posted on www.speier.house.gov and all of the individuals/organizations will testify in front of the Citizen’s Oversight Panel on one of three dates listed below. Members of the public may submit written comments to the panel and Congresswoman Speier by e-mail at Speier.comments@mail.house.gov or fax (202) 226-4183. The comment period will be open from Feb. 26-March 12.
