A residential burglary in the city of Hillsborough was apparently interrupted over the weekend by a neighbor who alerted police while the crime was in progress.
Hillsborough police officers received a report of an SUV stopped in front of a residence on the 300 block of West Santa Inez Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday from a concerned neighbor, police said in a statement on Sunday.
The neighbor reported that two people had exited the SUV wearing masks and climbed over a gate onto a residential property. They reported that a driver stayed in the vehicle.
Police officers arrived on the scene while the SUV was still parked there and detained the driver. The vehicle allegedly had stolen license plates.
The two alleged burglars fled and were not immediately located. Police said they remained outstanding as of Sunday.
A rear window had been smashed. Police did not say if anything was stolen but said the home was unoccupied at the time.
A backpack that allegedly contained burglary tools, including power tools, was found on the 400 block of Roblar Avenue, in the path the two were believed to have fled, police said.
The woman who was driving the SUV was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of residential burglary, conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
Police ask anyone with security footage in the area of West Santa Inez and Roblar avenues to review their footage from between 9-11 p.m. that day, and anyone with information about the alleged burglary is asked to contact the Hillsborough Police Department at (650) 375-7470.
