San Francisco police recovered a body in the Bay near Treasure Island on Thursday that could be linked to the capsizing of a boat earlier this week.
At 1:02 p.m., police received an alert from a passing vessel of a body in the water west of Treasure Island, according to a SFPD news release. A police marine unit recovered the body and pronounced the person dead on scene.
The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office will release the individual's name after determining their identity and notifying their next of kin.
Police did not say whether the recovered body may be one of the three missing people who were aboard the vessel that capsized near Alcatraz Island in the Bay on Tuesday afternoon. Out of the total 20 passengers aboard the 49-foot cabin cruiser, one was pronounced dead and three remained missing as of earlier Thursday.
The U.S. Coast Guard had searched for the remaining three passengers using multiple search and rescue technologies, including thermal imaging and tide prediction for more than 24 hours before suspending the search on Wednesday at sundown.
