Specialized crews with the San Francisco Police Department and other agencies are plumbing the depths of the Bay on Thursday to try to locate a vessel that sunk earlier this week, killing one person and leaving three others missing.
The department's marine unit is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard to find the boat, which they estimate is about 120 feet down on a rocky seabed.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Capt. Jarod Toczko said Wednesday that there is a high possibility that the three missing individuals were trapped inside the enclosed main deck or lower deck of the boat and remain there.
Recovery crews and the Alameda County Volunteer Dive Team are using boat-mounted sonar platforms and other technologies to conduct a grid search for the vessel amid strong currents and wind and weather changes, police said.
But finding the boat is only half of the work; once located, the Coast Guard and other agencies will need to determine how to carry out the recovery operation, according to police.

On Tuesday, the privately owned "pleasure craft" vessel filled with 20 close friends and family sailed out of the St. Francis Yacht Club to Angel Island. San Francisco Fire Chief Dean Crispen said they were on the boat for a memorial.
On the way back from Angel Island and nearly 600 yards from Alcatraz Island, Toczko said it appears that the 49-foot, three-tier cabin cruiser was hit with a wave, lost stability and quickly rolled over to the right front side of the boat. This caused many people to fall over and become disoriented.
Seventeen people were rescued from the water but one man, Sutter County resident Clifford Boisa, 79, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
On Wednesday at sunset, the Coast Guard announced it was suspending its search for the three missing individuals.
