SAN MATEO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT PRESIDING JUDGE SUSAN IRENE ETEZADI ANNOUNCES NEW JUDGES. On Feb. 28, San Mateo County Superior Court Presiding Judge Susan Irene Etezadi posted the following message to the community on the Court website:
“Welcome to the San Mateo County Superior Court Website. I would like to start by welcoming the court’s two newest judicial officers. The Honorable Nancy L. Fineman officially started working with the court on Dec. 4, 2017. Judge Fineman was appointed by Gov. Brown to the San Mateo County Superior Court on Nov. 2, 2017. She was a partner at Cotchett, Pitre and McCarthy LLP from 1996 until her appointment. She was an associate at that firm from 1989 to 1996. She served as a research attorney at the San Mateo County Superior Court from 1992 to 1993 and was an associate at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold from 1986 to 1989. Judge Fineman earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Joseph E. Bergeron. We are very pleased to have Judge Fineman join our Superior Court. Judge Fineman has been assigned to our Northern Branch in South San Francisco.
“The Honorable Danny Y. Chou officially started working with the court on Feb. 28, 2018. Judge Chou was appointed to the San Mateo Superior Court bench by Gov. Brown on Dec. 22, 2017. Judge Chou served as an assistant county counsel at the Santa Clara County Counsel’s Office from 2012 until his appointment. He served as chief of complex and special litigation at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office from 2008 to 2012, where he was chief of appellate litigation from 2006 to 2008. He served as a supervising staff attorney at the California Supreme Court from 2005 to 2006, where he was a judicial staff attorney from 1999 to 2005. He was a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit from 1998 to 1999, an associate at Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk and Rabkin from 1995 to 1998 and a law clerk for the Honorable Stanley A. Weigel at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California from 1994 to 1995. Judge Chou earned a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University. We are most happy that Judge Chou has joined our Superior Court. Judge Chou fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Barbara J. Mallach and has also been assigned to our Northern Branch in South San Francisco.
“Our court is still faced with budget challenges, as the governor and Legislature have not restored trial court funding to adequate levels, after the several years of budget cuts. Therefore, we are still working with reduced staffing levels, reduced public hours and reduced services. However, our goal is to provide the best level of service to the public in these difficult fiscal times and we appreciate your ongoing patience and support. We hope to accomplish this goal by continuing to find innovative ways to conduct business and provide essential court services to our community. That includes providing user-friendly information and services on this web page.
“Thank you for visiting and we encourage you to come back often for the latest news and information.”
