College of San Mateo (17-0) is no stranger to winning streaks on the softball diamond.

With a home doubleheader sweep Saturday of Lassen College (8-6), the Bulldogs matched last year’s 17-0 start with their 17th straight win to start the season. CSM has now won 33 straight dating back to last season, and will shoot to surpass the 2025 start Thursday when San Joaquin Delta comes to town for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
First baseman Katie Johnson set the tone Saturday, homering three times in CSM’s 6-0 win in the twin-bill opener. Johnson got the Bulldogs on the board with a solo home run in the second, then connected for a two-run homer in the third, and another two-run shot in the fifth. The sophomore added a single in the nightcap, a 10-2 CSM victory.
Johnson is now bating .500 with five home runs and 14 RBIs on the season.
Sophomores Nia Mapa and Love Cabanas each homered in Game 2. Mapa, who also picked up the win in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits through five innings of work in the mercy-rule shortened game, is now slashing .535/.630/1.256 with 10 home runs.
Freshman left-hander Lola Sierra earned the win in the opener, firing five two-hit shutout frames, while striking out five. Sierra has now won her last three starts, and improves to 7-0 on the year. Sophomore right-hander Gianna Tassio closed it out with two scoreless frames.
