Editor,
Mike Caggiano’s letter missed one important difference. It is commendable that Egypt and Jordan accepted a peace with Israel, that has lasted many years and continues.
However, it is the Palestinians who have refused many peace offers, starting with the U.N. Partition Plan in 1947, when Israel accepted a small area to create a Jewish state named Israel. The Palestinians refused the plan by Israel PM Yitzchak Rabin in 1993, the plan by Israel PM Ehud Ohlmert in 2007, and would not consider the plan by President Donald Trump in 2019.
The obstruction of peace by the Palestinians is a factual record of history. However, there is always hope that the Palestinians may decide to stop terrorism, recognize the existence of Israel, accept a Palestinian state in the West Bank and live peacefully next to Israel.
First the war against Hamas must end with Hamas release of all the hostages, Hamas resignation from governing Gaza and new leadership for the Palestinians.

While we know Hamas as a terrorist group, apparently few of us are aware that they are also part of the social fabric In Gaza. They provide for social and health services, food distribution and education. If Israel can provide for an alternative to what Hamas now makes available, that could be a step toward lasting peace. Until that potential void is filled, there is no end in sight. Flattening Gaza will only strengthen the Palestinian resolve. We found that out from the bombing campaign by the Nazis over Great Britain and by the Allies over Germany. The British and the Germans fought even harder. Believe me, I am pro-Israel but the current path will only create more animosity, destruction and economic ruin. Perhaps a leadership change in Jerusalem is in order, Even the generally pro-Israel EU leaders are considering limiting their cultural and trade agreements. Our news media are not honest with the American public; the horrific situation for the population in Gaza must come to an end.
Hello, Norman
Mike is passionate about his beliefs re: how the conflict between Israel and Hamas can end. I'd like to see him dispute the facts presented by Gil and yourself today.
Hamas will be extremely hard to root out of Palestine because Iran's objective is to keep Hamas in power to help it to control land near Saudi Arabia. The Saudi's don't want this due their centuries old religious war with Iran. The Saudis and Israel could become future allies against Iran. All the more reason we need to take out Irans nuclear capability.
