The article “To stay sharper while aging, get active, challenge your brain, and eat healthy” by the Associated Press is intentionally misleading. It omits important facts about aging: People lose interest in everything, they grow grumpy and hard to get along with. They get sick. And they don’t need a pep talk. What they need is their relatives taking care of them instead of shuttling them off to one of the “vibrant communities” your paper habitually advertises.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Rich, but when you say aging folks “lose interest in everything, they grow grumpy and hard to get along with,” don’t you think those are reasons why relatives shuttle them off to one of the “vibrant communities” the paper habitually advertises? Or maybe it is the relatives who are grumpy and hard to get along with? Perhaps it is better for everyone’s mental health to be physically separated. Perhaps an ADU where they each have their own space or perhaps a vibrant community the paper habitually advertises.
