Catherine Gogarty Winnett, cherished mother, wife, and sister, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 26, 2025 in Burlingame, CA.
She was born on June 15, 1963 as the youngest and beloved daughter of the late Winnie & Harry Gogarty. Catherine grew up on Bernal Avenue with her siblings, Jim, Sean, Mary and Donal. She enjoyed reminiscing on stories of her early years, riding bikes around Burlingame, buying chocolates at Preston’s, and attending Our Lady of Angels school alongside many childhood friends.
She spent her high school years at Mercy Burlingame with one of her best friends Lauren Barranti, and earned her degree in developmental psychology from UCSB in 1985. Soon after graduating from college, she accepted a position at an insurance agency, and it was there that she met her husband, Douglas Winnett. Catherine and Doug were married in 1989 and moved up to a house with a lovely view in Millbrae, CA. They were delighted to welcome three beautiful children into the world soon after, Jennifer, Patrick, and Michael.
Catherine enjoyed raising her kids around the same neighborhood where she found so much joy growing up. Some of her fondest memories included beach days with her family in Half Moon Bay and taking her kids trick-or-treating near her childhood home, always stopping in for the first candy from Grandpa Harry. She was known to many as the mom with the camera, excited to capture each milestone of her growing children.
Catherine enjoyed traveling to Ireland with her family in her youth, and returned as a mother to share with her children the heritage she was so proud of. She cherished her time with family and friends. There are many people who will miss her thoughtful heart and her wry sense of humor through both the good and bad times in her life. She will be in our hearts forever.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Douglas Winnett; her three children, Jennifer, Patrick, and Michael Winnett; her siblings and their spouses, Jim and Rose Gogarty, Sean and Mags Gogarty, Mary and Rick Kalbhenn, Donal and Ginger Gogarty; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, May 1 at 6 p.m. at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s in San Mateo. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of Mercy, Burlingame.
