Movie Review: 'Man on the Run' chronicles Paul McCartney's post-Beatles long and winding road
If Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back” was the supreme document of the Beatles’ final moments together and of their dissolution, Morgan Neville’s “Man on the Run” is a kind of sequel, writes Associated Press Film Writer Jake Coyle in his review. How you feel about McCartney’s post-Beatles career might inform how you feel about “Man on the Run.” His post-Beatles, Wings era is a period that offers no neat narrative, but — quite unlike the mythic Beatles years — something more like the ups and down of life, with regrets and triumphs along the way. It premieres Friday on Prime Video.

‘Scrubs’ revival brings back the old goofy gang, but now they're, gulp, in charge
NEW YORK (AP) — The “Scrubs” revival brings back Dr. John Dorian and Dr. Christopher Turk, picking up 17 years after the original series ended. Creator Bill Lawrence says the characters are still playful but now lead responsible adult lives. The revival features the original cast as teachers to new doctors, reflecting changes in medicine and hospital culture. Dr. Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley, can no longer berate interns as he did in the past. The show explores themes of male friendship and the second stage of life, maintaining its mix of drama and comedy while staying grounded in reality.

NEW YORK (AP) — Author Rachel Reid says she is delaying her next hockey romance novel because sudden fame and worsening Parkinson’s disease symptoms have slowed her writing. She also said her Parkinson’s symptoms have gotten worse. She learned she had Parkinson’s in 2023.

Warner Bros gets a higher offer from Paramount in heated fight for the storied Hollywood studio
NEW YORK (AP) — Warner Bros. Discovery said that Paramount has raised the price of its takeover offer to $31 per share, potentially setting the stage for a fresh bidding war with Netflix over the future of the Hollywood giant. The company previously offered $30 per share when it first went directly to Warner stakeholders with its all-cash, hostile bid in December — just days after Warner struck a deal to sell its studio and streaming business to Netflix for $27.75 per share. Beyond upping its proposed purchase price, Warner said Paramount had increased its regulatory termination fee to $7 billion. Paramount also agreed to move up a previously-promised “ticking fee” payable to shareholders.

Music Review: Mitski’s haunted 'Nothing’s About to Happen to Me' explores solitude, death and cats
On her eighth studio release, singer-songwriter Mitski crafts a stunningly dark tapestry concerned with solitude and death. On “Nothing's About to Happen to Me,” psychological unrest manifests physically as a spooky house. And yes, there are cats, writes The Associated Press’ Jim Pollock in his review. Mitski has described the new album as a musical continuation of her 2023 release, “The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We.” She again blends Americana and alt-rock with meticulous orchestral and choral arrangements. But this is more than a simple second edition. At its core, the new release is a free-standing concept album in which haunter and haunted are often one in the same.
Oscar run is bittersweet for brother and friend who made film after death of journalist Brent Renaud
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It's a bittersweet Academy Awards season for documentarians Craig Renaud and Juan Arredondo. The two men are nominated for an Oscar for the short documentary they made honoring his life and work. They tell The Associated Press that they love that Brent Renaud has gotten the recognition that only the Oscars can bring, but both have lingering guilt and trauma over his loss. But they say their deceased brother and friend had said that if someone was killed in action, the others should keep filming.
