Alvarez 2, Hillsdale 1
There will be no Central Coast Section championship repeat for the Knights, as fourth-seeded Hillsdale fell to the undefeated Eagles in a Division I semifinal match in Salinas Tuesday night.
Hillsdale (14-2-6), the defending CCS Division II champ, lost for the first time since its season opener, trailing 2-0 at halftime. Cristian Gomez cut the Knights’ deficit in half in the second half, off an assist from Tyler Essa, but the Knights could not find the equalizer against Alvarez (22-0-0).
The loss, however, does not end the season for Hillsdale. By advancing to the Division I semifinals, the Knights automatically qualified for the CIF Northern California regional tournament, which begins next week.
