Kealani Kaufusi, Hillsdale softball. The fourth-year varsity senior picked a heck of a time for her first career home run, delivering the game-winning swing in a 3-2 victory over Mills. Kaufusi stepped to the plate amid a 2-2 tie in the sixth and was facing an 0-2 count when she hammered a high fastball deep into the spacious right field at Hillsdale. With no fences, Kaufusi sprinted around the bases to beat the relay throw by a step for an inside-the-park homer.
Nathaniel Macapagal, El Camino boys’ swimming. El Camino got past Oceana 83-73 in the first PAL Ocean Division dual meet of the year. Macapagal enjoyed two wins, as the junior sprinter earned a CCS cut in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.83 seconds. He followed that with a win in the 100 free with a 50.09. Jonathan Lam also earned two wins, taking first in the 100 fly in 57.34, and in the 100 back in 58.53.
Avery Lee, Menlo School girls’ basketball. The sophomore point guard is the groove right now as she helped lead the top-seeded Knights into the Nor Cal Division II finals. In three games last week, Lee scored 23 in a 66-56 win over Bradshaw Christian-Sacramento. She came back with 19 as Menlo beat Central-Fresno 67-55 and in the semifinals, went for 18 in a 61-54 win over San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno. She also dished out 18 assists, including seven in each of the last two games.
Jack Mettam and Jared Mettam, Half Moon Bay baseball. Jack, a senior, and his freshman brother Jared both played large roles in a pair of Cougars’ wins. Jared Mettam went 2 for 2 with a triple and a pair of runs driven in during a 5-4 win over University-SF. In a 5-2 win over Lincoln-SF, Jack Mettam doubled and eventually scored. He then drove his brother in for an RBI.
Kalyn Chang, San Mateo girls’ swimming. Chang was the swimmer of the meet as the Bearcats downed Woodside 99-67 in the PAL Ocean Division opener. She captured first place in both the 200 free and 200 backstroke. Swimming the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay Chang — along with Emily Chinn, Cecilia Quan and Jennifer Ding — swam a 1:58.25, a Central Coast Section qualifying mark.

Jack Warren, San Mateo baseball. The senior did it all during the Bearcats’ 13-0 win over Fremont-Sunnyvale. At the plate, Warren was a perfect 4 for 4 at the with three doubles and four RBIs, while dealing a complete-game one-hitter on the mound.
Lydia Manu, Aragon girls’ basketball. The junior guard helped lead the Dons to the second round of the Nor Cal Division III bracket. Following a six-and-half-hour drive through a storm to take on Eureka in the first round, She scored a team-high 19 points as the ninth-seeded Dons downed the No. 8 Loggers, 47-44. She followed that with a 17-point performance a 46-34 quarterfinal loss to No. 16 Union Mine-El Dorado.
Olivia DiNardo, Aragon softball. The Lady Dons opened with an explosive 17-0 win over Terra Nova. And DiNardo, playing in her first varsity game, accounted for over half those runs. The freshman enjoyed a monumental debut, going 2 for 4 with seven RBIs and three runs scored. In her first high school at-bat, she laced a two-run triple. Then in the fourth, she unloaded for a grand slam home run.
Sara Osterberg, Menlo-Atherton track and field. The senior distance runner tapped two meet records Saturday at the Third Annual Rust Buster track and field meet at Monta Vista High School. In the girls’ 3,200 meters, Osterberg took first place with a time of 11 minutes, 36.09 seconds, out-legging Castilleja junior Tevah Gevelber’s second-place time by 0.41 seconds. Osterberg’s finish put her past the meet record of 12:02.41, set last year by M-A’s Cricket Gorey. And in the girls’ 1,600, Osterberg shattered her own meet record with a first-place time of 5:22.26.
Parker McDonald, Serra boys’ basketball. The Padres, seeded No. 8 in the CIF Northern California Division II playoffs, knocked off top-seed St. Mary’s-Stockton 62-57 in last Thursday’s regional quarterfinals. McDonald led the way with a team-high 19 points. The senior forward gave a command performance in Saturday’s 70-44 win over Rocklin in the regional semifinals, including a scorching-hot 10 points in the first quarter as the Padres opened with a 24-4 run.
