Editor,
I was disappointed to read that football coach Steve Sell is so dismissive of female sports and the women who have fought for years for the right to compete fairly.

Editor,
I was disappointed to read that football coach Steve Sell is so dismissive of female sports and the women who have fought for years for the right to compete fairly.
First, despite the inflammatory language used, there were no “vicious attacks” on kids. A group of women (one-third of whom are lesbians) held signs reading “Protect Female Sports” at two high school track meets where biological boys were competing in girls’ events. Many of the female athletes and their families thanked the protesters and expressed that they were not able to object themselves for fear of backlash.
Sell states “irrefutable truths” (many of which are not truths but trans activist talking points), but what is irrefutable is that male puberty provides significant physical advantages in athletic competition. These advantages are not erased by hormone suppression, but at the high school level, there is not even a requirement to suppress testosterone for boys who “identify” as girls to compete with the girls. Sports have always been segregated by sex, not “gender identity.” And no one is trying to prevent any kids from competing in high school sports. All can participate with their biological sex. Just as we have age groups in youth sports (a 16-year-old can’t play 10U Little League) and weight categories in wrestling, we separate sports by sex with good reason.
High school sports provide tremendous physical and mental benefits and all deserve fair competition. Keep female sports female.

Decision from WA (international sports governing body) on this subject-
—
“Decisions are always difficult when they involve conflicting needs and rights between different groups, but we continue to take the view that we must maintain fairness for female athletes above all other considerations,” World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said in a statement.
“We will be guided in this by the science around physical performance and male advantage which will inevitably develop over the coming years. As more evidence becomes available, we will review our position, but we believe the integrity of the female category in athletics is paramount.”

The transphobia here is so blatant and I’m incredibly disappointed in the Daily Journal for platforming bigotry.
Well Owen - since when is keeping boys out of girls sport a phobia?
"Transphobia?" Isn't that where Dracula is from?
They’re trying to keep girls out of girls sports…
Right on. This is a non-issue stirred up for the far right’s political gain. It’s endangered transgender people.
Exactly. Non-issue. And the people jumping on the bandwagon have made zero effort to educate themselves as to what transgendered means, they seem just very happy to have a new vehicle for their hatred and a new bunch of targets. They forget that these targets are fellow human beings.
This is a non argument. All you have are ad hominems: haters, far right wingers, targeters, etc.. That is because you have no rebuttal for the easily verified scientific fact that everyone is either biologically male or female.
No one here has expressed hatred for transgender people and you have not even indicated an argument for why expressing the contrary opinion is "bigotry" or "hatred." You should not be throwing around those dangerous, inflammatory terms without some strong evidence other than you decide that is so.
If you somehow have a rebuttal for one's sex being either male or female according to biology, then state your piece and stop wasting everyone's time.
I would also add as further proof of the obvious is that some, not all, transgendered persons resort to dangerous surgeries and hormonal treatments to attempt to "change" their sex. I think it is the medical cartel and their enablers who are the real targeters of children with unproved, risky procedures that should be banned for persons that are not adults.
Publishing a letter to the editor is "platforming?" I can see who supports authoritarian censorship.
