Editor,
I have noticed dozens of massive buildings have been built along the waterfront from China Basin to Redwood City, just steps from the Bay, in the last decade. At the same time, a number of former and current elected officials has formed a group to protect us from sea-level rise. They are formulating plans to erect a wall and have amassed tens of millions of dollars, not counting the $100 million that was just directed their way.

It's all about grift.
These developers know exactly what they are doing, because they are part of a whole YIMBY-movement ( you see many participating companies on this page: https://singersf.com/our-clients/ )
STEP 1: promise "affordable housing" and let council members take credit for it.
STEP 2: claim you can't afford to build "affordable" housing and have council members repeat this phrase.
STEP 3: build office spaces and luxury homes at the waterfront instead.
STEP 4: Once everything is built the protection of buildings become the responsibility of the city and county.
By that time the developers and the council members will be gone and the public pays for it.
Let's take SamTrans' North Base as an example. They have several projects going for North Base:
- North Base is on an island that will need very expensive Sea Level Rise adaptation
- North Base has several old office buildings requiring rebuilding
- North Base needs Electrification to handle all the new hydrogen and/or battery buses
Which normal company would want high-voltage equipment on the waterfront prone to flooding and sea level rise?
Only Ray Mueller suggested to move first, avoid the problem of sea level rise completely and set up shop in an area suited much better for a bus depot.
Jeff Gee, David Canepa, Rico E. Medina were pushing to keep SamTrans' North Base on the Island, spend on all the new offices, and AFTERWARDS do the Sea Level Rise project.
=> No responsible company would do that in this order. Needless to say, Jeff Gee is working for the YIMBY movement. And they just outsource all costs to the public.
Thanks, Mr. Donnelly, for pointing us towards yet another example of the climate industrial complex. I reckon many “greenies” are going to be living high on the hog with the taxpayer “green” that is gifted to them. The only green the climate industrial complex is interested in is not in saving the world, it’s about the money. Note that California’s Democrat leaders are increasing oil production in California and considering giving one of the refineries millions of dollars to remain open. Does that sound like they’re worried about global warming?
