Almost three weeks since Foster City got hit with a cyberattack, it’s still in the process of regaining full access to its network, however, many services have been restored, according to a recent city statement.
Apart from emergency services like 911, the city’s entire network was shut down starting on March 19 when ransomware was detected, affecting citywide operations. Law enforcement are continuing to investigate the incident.
The city has restored permitting services and Parks and Recreation Program registrations, according to a statement April 3, yet it is continuing to evaluate its online systems like e-Trakit and RecTrac.
City Manager Stefan Chatwin previously said he could not comment whether the city’s network has been held ransom by cyberattackers. Foster City isn’t the only California city to have dealt with the issue, as Oakland and Los Angeles have also dealt with cyberattacks in recent years.
