The 26-year-old confessed killer whose violent rampage left a Burlingame bank manager dead offered a rambling tirade filled with religious references and apologies before being sentenced to 296 years plus life in prison without the possibility of parole Sept. 20, 2004.
Seti Christopher Scanlan claimed the term, including nine life sentences, rightfully avenged one of God’s “Earth angels,” Alice Martel. He claimed “death is the easy way out” and even asked Judge Robert Foiles to give him more time in prison.
“Give me 500, give me a thousand, give me a million, too,” Scanlan said.
Martel, 34, died Oct. 11, 2002, after Scanlan shot her in the abdomen during an armed robbery of the Wells Fargo branch she managed. She left behind a husband, David, and two young sons.
