2003: BALCO labs raided
The Burlingame home of Barry Bonds’ personal trainer and the San Mateo home of the founder of a popular nutritional supplement lab were raided in September 2003, just after the lab itself was raided Wednesday.
The raids were the latest in a growing scandal involving Burlingame’s BALCO Lab. With past BALCO clients testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, the crackdown on BALCO holds the possibility of jeopardizing the careers of hundreds of Olympians and professional athletes.
As first reported in the Daily Journal Sept. 4, the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative, known as BALCO, was raided by IRS and San Mateo County Narcotics agents. At 12:30 p.m., agents and computer technicians entered the building at 1250 Gilbreth Road and removed boxes of unknown items.
