Woodside wunderkind Clara Young had a busy weekend at the CIF Swimming & Diving Championships at Clovis West High School. The sophomore did not disappoint.

Young medaled with two third-place finishes Saturday in Clovis. She opened with an All-American time of 22.95 seconds in the girls’ 50-yard free, taking third behind champion Khanh Seaton of Castro Valley, who record a meet record in 22.22, and St. Francis junior Lilla Kayinya’s second-place finish in 22.85.
Last season, Young took fifth in the 50 free.
Saturday in the girls’ 100 free, Young added a second medal with a third-place finish. The sophomore executed an All-American cut of 49.71, finishing back of Seaton, who won the title in 48.22, and Foothill senior McKinley Scobie in second at 49.29.
Young also anchored Woodside in the girls’ 400 free relay, advancing to the “B” final for an 11th place finish. Young, sophomore Charlotte Teague, freshman Ella Moser and freshman Sophia Achterkirchen swan the finals in 3:29.07.
Moser also took 12th overall in the girls’ 200, placing third in the “B” final in 1:50.78.

Carlmont sophomore Louise Scherrer advanced to the “A” final in the girls’ 100 fly and took eighth place overall. After recording the fourth best time in Friday’s preliminaries, Scherrer took eighth in the finals in 54.90.
Crystal junior Alexandre Louvel took 17th in the boys’ 50, qualifying for the “B” final. Louvel swam it in 20.96 after speeding to a time of 20.65 in Friday’s prelims.
Aragon senior Lily Anagnoson swam to seventh place in the girls’ 100 back in a time of 55.11, bettering her time from Friday’s prelims of 55.18. Burlingame junior Alexa Chang qualified for the “B” final in the event, taking 16th overall in 55.22.
In the boys’ 200, Mills junior Dylan Yang placed 11th, swimming in the “B” final and taking second in the heat in 1:38.68.
Menlo-Atherton senior Hailey Preuss placed 11th overall in the girls’ 500, swimming 4:52.95 to finish second in the “B” finals. Preuss executed her final lap in 27.99 seconds, the third fastest closing lap and fourth fastest lap overall of anyone in the field, including all nine swimmers in the “A” final.
Serra junior Brian Raghunathan made the cut for the “B” final in the boys’ 100 breast, taking 18th overall in 56.39.
Results in the boys’ 500 free, the boys’ 200 free relay, the boys’ 100 back, the girls’ 100 breast and the boys’ 400 free relay were not available at press time. Results can be found at cwswim.cusd.com/realtime/statemeet.
