Wow. James Mark Constantino’s assessment of the Ukraine peace process “God help Ukraine” from Feb. 19 seems to have come direct from Moscow. Sure, Russia is ready to end hostilities but only if Ukraine surrenders on terms that have not changed since the start of the full-scale invasion. Why is Donbas “already Russia’s territory?”
Russia invaded it and the other occupied territories in 2014, in violation of an agreement to not do so in return for Ukraine transferring its nukes and other weapons to Russia. Trump has applied intense pressure on Zelenskyy and Ukraine to sign a one-sided peace agreement while giving Putin, the aggressor, a complete pass.
It’s obvious now that the war will end when the Russian Federation implodes economically and its angry, unpaid occupiers go home. God better help Russia then. Ukraine will be fine.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Taylor, but it is apparent to anyone who follows the progress of the Ukraine-Russia war as to who is winning. And it is not Ukraine. The ball is in Ukraine’s court. It is up to them to put it into play for a peace deal or fumble it and lose all of Ukraine. As for the Russian Federation imploding, don’t count on it. Russia has plenty of oil to sell and even if some countries won’t buy it, some will. Notably China. Russia will be fine.
