I wanted to write to you to bring attention to an issue that I feel like has been addressed, but more should be done about. Currently, many grade schools in California offer free lunches for students who meet specific annual income requirements for a family of four and low-cost lunches for those who also meet certain requirements. Although there are programs offered for students in low-income families, I believe that the annual income required to be eligible for these programs should be raised, giving more families opportunity for their children to be eligible for cheaper or free school lunches.
In today’s current economy, the costs of living continue to rise leaving low-income families in a bigger struggle to help provide for their families. I feel that many families across California are currently affected by this issue and spreading the world about helping to raise the annual income required to be eligible for these programs would help families out immensely in reducing overall costs of living, if not a little.
