Editor,

Are we suffering from “foreign policy dementia?” This may have less to do with presidents or their mental condition, than it does to our foreign policy establishment and its condition after some 240 years of existence. Recently we used our veto four times in the U.N. Security Council to defeat calls for a cease-fire in the Gaza genocide and the related battles with Lebanon and Yemen. That vote was 14 in favor and only the U.S. against. We could compare that to the recent U.N. General Assembly vote to end the embargo against Cuba (60 years and ongoing) for the sake of interest. That was 187 to 2.

Two members of the Permanent UN Security Council are totalitarian countries in which the people have no say and the others vote for their own political convenience. Israel's only choice is to defend itself against Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran who have all sworn to destroy Israel no matter the cost.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Caggiano, but again, you’ve failed to provide the full story. The U.S. continues to use their veto because the U.N. doesn’t include calls for an unconditional release of all hostages, and unfortunately, bodies of hostages. Why should Hamas receive a get out of jail free card for their massacre and hostage-taking? Hamas and their supporters made their bed so they can continue to lie in it. More power to Netanyahu to finish his mission, regardless of what any other country says.

Mike - take a look at the members of the Security Council. They are generally anti US and anti Israel. That shows again that the UN is an expensive farce that we should get out of. When even Biden's position is against that duplicitous majority, we know that our position is correct.

Jill?

Jorg

Yes, Ray, you are right again! Jill Biden does have a doctorate, a PhD, in something, but she is not a physician, while physicians are referred to as “doctors”, whether they have a doctorate, or not. Many, if not most, just have a medical degree, which is not a doctorate.

Ed.D.

Jorg

Yes, but not sure how that one stacks up against a PhD in other areas, - my understanding is that an EdD is the weakest area of so-called doctorates, and not much to brag about.

Ray Fowler

Precisely.
