Fewer San Mateo residents will have all or part of their properties taken, but some may. But, even if no property would be taken, the neighborhood will be severely disrupted and folks lives degraded. The freeway will now be that much closer. Their property values reduced. The ability to enjoy their homes and yards will be diminished. They will be exposed to more pollution and particulates and road noise. The neighborhood will suffer more cut-through traffic and attendant dangers.
All for a project that is doomed to fail at its primary goal of congestion relief and a quick connection between 101 and 92. We have tried highway expansions thousands of times over the past 70 years throughout the country. And not once has congestion been relieved. $300 million down the tubes instead of being wisely invested in road changes that are known to be effective.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting a different result.
