A Redwood City man was arrested after he barricaded himself inside a home for several hours following an alleged assault that left his younger brother unconscious over the weekend, police said.
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Madison Avenue at 8:47 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a disturbance between family members. Officers said a 21-year-old man told them his brother, 37-year-old Orlando Escobedo Avila of Redwood City, had strangled him until he lost consciousness.
The victim had injuries consistent with strangulation, the Redwood City Police Department said in a statement Monday.
According to police, Escobedo Avila then barricaded himself inside the residence and repeatedly refused to surrender. Officers obtained an arrest warrant.
After several hours of negotiations, Escobedo Avila surrendered and was taken into custody without injury. He was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony assault and resisting or delaying officers. Police also served him with a previously unserved restraining order and a new emergency protective order issued on behalf of the victim.
