Boys’ soccer
El Camino 7, Oceana 0
El Camino’s underclassmen enjoyed quite a day. Sophomore striker Daniel Figueroa Jr. scored his second career hat trick to lead the Colts (3-0-1 PAL Ocean, 3-0-1 overall) to the win at Oceana (1-3, 1-3). Freshman midfielder Manny Tafolla added a goal and three assists. Two seniors got on the scoring ledger as well, with Swaraj Adhikari totaling two goals, while Ayden Fernandez had a goal and an assist.
With the win, the Colts remain tied with San Mateo atop the PAL Ocean Division in the early going of league play.
Hillsdale 4, South City 0
Senior striker Bernardo Chaparro tallied two goals and the Fighting Knighs (1-0 PAL Bay, 2-1-1 overall) earned the win in their PAL Bay Division opener at home against South City (0-1, 0-4). Senior Tyler Hughes. added two assists for Hillsdale, while seniors Anthony Pozzabon and Brady Skidmore scored a goal apiece.
San Mateo 1, Half Moon Bay 1
San Mateo (3-0-1 PAL Ocean, 4-1-1 overall) traded second-half goals to draw on the Coastside. Sophomore Efrain Celis Bueno scored for San Mateo on an assist from senior Edy Perez Mayen. Junior Soren Brown scored an unassisted goal for Half Moon Bay.
Aragon 3, Sequoia 0
The Dons (1-0 PAL Bay, 2-2 overall) won their PAL Bay Division opener, riding two goals from Gabriel Wilcox. Andrew Alaha assisted Wilcox’s first goal, and Jefferey Sanchez Pelaez assisted on the second. Pelaez added a goal Aragon. Sequoia’s senior goalkeeper Max Slayen totaled two saves, while the Ravens had five shots on goal.
Mills 3, Westmoor 0
Julian Mindel recorded two assists and Mills (1-2 PAL Ocean, 1-3-1 overall) earned its first win of the season in a PAL Ocean Division home matchup against Westmoor (0-3, 0-3). Lucas Zaninovich scored off Mindel’s first assist, and Joshua Huei scored the second. Shamal Kumar also scored on a free kick for the Vikings.

Serra (2-0) used two second-half goals to earn a 3-1 non-league win at Menlo-Atherton (2-2).
Carlmont (1-1-1) earned its first win of the season 2-0 at home against Alisal-Salinas (2-1). The Scots were initially scheduled to play Menlo-Atherton in the PAL Bay Division opener, but the matchup was rescheduled for later in the year.
Design Tech (0-0-1, 0-0-1) opened its PSAL slate with a 1-1 draw at KIPP Esperanza-Palo Alto (0-0-1, 1-3-2).
Jefferson (0-0-3 PAL Ocean, 0-2-3 overall) played to a 0-0 draw at home against Capuchino.
Boys’ basketball
Oakwood 52, Terra Nova 43
The Tigers (1-3) dropped their third straight in tournament play to unbeaten Oakwood-Morgan Hill (4-0). Oakwood guard Bryce Smith Keeney shot 73% from the field en route to scoring a game-high 23 points, while junior post Nate Carlson grabbed 11 rebounds.
In other action ...
Nueva School (0-3) dropped its third straight to start the season 58-56 at home to Jewish Community-SF (5-2). Two of Nueva’s losses have been by a one-score differential, including a 77-75 overtime loss to North Valley Baptist-Santa Clara in the Dec. 4 season opener.
Girls’ basketball
Westmoor 48, Pajaro Valley 34
The Lady Rams (4-4) traveled to Pajaro Valley-Watsonville (1-1) and won their second straight. Since coming off a three-game slide earlier in the year, Westmoor has posted a 3-1 record.
