Not so long ago, it suddenly occurred to me that I had stopped watching the evening news on television. It’s always important to be informed about world events, so currently I seem to gather my news through other sources of information such as newspapers, radio, etc. While there are occasional positive stories on television, much of the current news (especially government) is depressing.
Earlier in the year I was told I had stage 1 lung cancer and would have to have a lung removed at Stanford. The good news is, my upper left lobe was successfully removed. A few weeks ago I was fortunate to be told by my doctor that I no longer had cancer. How is that for some positive news?
Recently, I was at my local coffee shop and shared the news with a barista I had gotten to know. She lit up and congratulated me on my good cancer news. A nearby barista (whom I did not know) chimed in and echoed the same sentiment as did a nearby customer, whom I also did not know.Â
This same day (and others) I had a similar experience where not just people I know, but others I don’t, perked up and congratulated me on my good health news.
This experience has made me realize that many people are yearning for something positive to think about and to discuss. Whether it is my story or your story, we need some good food for thought, at this time. Perhaps you have a positive story to share with others that might brighten their day.
Thank you David! As a shopkeeper I get to know a lot of people who come into our store. When I ask someone "How are you?" I really do want to know the answer. I'm honored when someone shares good or difficult news. Thank you for honoring us as readers with your wonderful news.
People are starving for goods news, less hate, more honesty, higher standards, good leadership, acts of kindness, positive social signals, kinder and gentler voices every where. It is very popular to hate these days. I am waiting for civility to return. Kindness is a choice!
Congratulations, Mr. Thom, on your good cancer news. Good wishes on your continued recovery. I’d recommend you continue eschewing the evening news on television and just about all mainstream media news sources, whether on television, newspapers, radio, etc. Instead, begin adding new media into your repertoire as many of them are devoid of the fake news and manufactured outrage from mainstream media. It is there that you’ll find positive stories. In addition, you have a President who wants to Make America Great Again, Again so I’d say each day is more positive for Americans. Now if Democrats could start putting the welfare of Americans over that of criminals and terrorists, each day could be even more positive.
