Green jet fuel: Newsom wants to let our roads degrade further

1). It appears from a Berkeley study that the fuels developed would equally reduce the fuel options for trucks and buses. That would be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

2). Funds to underwrite the production (rumored to be Phillips 66 in Rodeo) would come from our highway maintenance funds. But state highways are not being maintained all that well as it is. And we voted for those taxes as highway funds.

3). And finally, the program cost per ton of emissions applied to jet fuel is out of reason — apparently 10 times the value per dollar of existing emission reduction programs.

It’s a bit surprising that Gov. Newsom would jump on a “green” program that local environmentalists are questioning. But then, it did get front page coverage, and he is running for president. ... I’m thinking his new book should be subtitled “Young man in a hurry,” because he’s not a man who’s thinking things through.
