Editor,
A recent Daily Journal article highlighted a clear choice for San Mateo County voters, but also pointed out a serious concern.
One candidate, Jay Boyarsky, is a career prosecutor from Santa Clara County, who has worked in administration, away from the courtroom, for 15 years. He has unsuccessfully tried to be a judge in Santa Clara County four times, rejected by voters twice and rejected by the governor twice. But, now, despite two judicial elections in Santa Clara County this year, he is seeking a judgeship in San Mateo County, where he has never lived or worked. This matters. Judges are not interchangeable; they are the final arbitrators of justice for the residents of San Mateo County.
By contrast, Brian Donnellan is the prime example of local commitment. He was raised in San Mateo County, is raising his family here and has served us as a Deputy District Attorney, in the courthouse, for the past two decades. As the article noted, he has received the endorsement of every San Mateo County judge, every county prosecutor, twenty police organizations and over 40 San Mateo County criminal defense attorneys, which highlights his broad support.
This election should not be about personal ambition, but about who is ready to serve this community in an important position. San Mateo County deserves a judge who understands our courtrooms, our people and the impact of judicial decisions here.
The only candidate that makes sense for us is Brian Donnellan.
