Dennis John Durkin, 76, passed away on June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after living with metastatic prostate cancer.
Born in Wisconsin to Robert and Glennis Durkin, Dennis was the eldest of seven children and grew up in a lively household. He deeply valued the bonds he shared with his parents and siblings.
Dennis had a long and meaningful career in law, first as an attorney and later as a judge. Much of his work centered on family law, where he brought patience, fairness, and compassion to people going through difficult times.
Faith and service were central to Dennis’s life. He was a longtime member of St. Pius Church, where he served for decades as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He also gave generously of his time through the Men’s Club, Lions Club, Rotary, and other community organizations, and was always willing to help friends and family when they needed him.
Dennis loved being outdoors and was always drawn to adventure, from backpacking, camping, and skiing to scuba and abalone diving, sailing, running, and biking. As an instrument-rated pilot, flying became one of his great passions, and one he shared with his father. He especially loved Tahoe, Drakesbad, Giants baseball, and the family traditions tied to summer vacations and winter trips.
Dennis showed his love by showing up. His family will remember his wisdom, his dedication, his signature black cowboy hat, the way he embraced life, and the comfort of knowing he was always there. As Bapa, he will be remembered for school pickups, gummy bears on car rides, sleepovers at Grandma and Bapa’s, and how loved he made his grandchildren feel.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie; his children, Melissa, Dennis, and Lisa; his grandchildren, Alex, Kylie, Ash, Cayson, Bryson, and Terrence; and his siblings, Susan, Timothy, Nancy, Mary, Patricia, and Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 6, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Pius Church, followed by an Irish wake at Homer Crouse Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission House in Redwood City.
